Update for January 17

Wednesday - Tyler has been back at school this week. He has classes from 9:30- to 12:30 every day. He has use of the elevator at school so he can go up to the second floor if he has a class to get to.

Tyler has been looking at some of the different Physical Therapy options available and is interested in a facility called Project Walk. They are based in California and Portland and have a great website; ProjectWalk-portland.org.

We just found out today that there is an facility opening in North Jersey that is run by Project Walk trained specialists. We are planning on visiting them soon. The Project Walk philosophy is to work all the parts of your body to keep in shape, but also to make your body think that your legs/lower body are still working. This will reduce the muscle and bone density loss that SCI patients sometimes experience. Check out the website for more information.

Thats all for now and as always thank you to everyone for your continued support.

Update for January 22,2007

This past saturday night was the benefit DInner/Dance and Silent Auction. The event was a hugh sucess and everyone had a great time. About 230 people showed up for the wonderful dinner prepared by the Wendels and we listened to the tunes by DJ Jimmy C. We got to see the dance moves of Jim "Crazy Legs" Langton and Tim "Serpico" Hale. There were lot of happy auction winners who took home tickets to Yankees, Mets and Nets games, Golf outings, Autographed Sports Memorabilia, and some fine furniture. Overall the night couldn't have gone better, thanks to all involved, especially the Michellas for organizing the event.
Tyler enjoyed the night as many of his freinds were working as waiters and waitresses (headed up by the "Boss"- Billy Michella).
Alot of people had so much fun that they wanted to do this again just for the party....we will have to see about that.
This coming week is exam week at VCHS so Tyler will not have to be in school much at all. He hopes to get his workout program going this week, and is looking forward to his new wheelchair coming in soon.
Thats all for this update, and thank you again for a great night!

Saturday January 23 Update

Tyler visited and Physical Therapy office in Bloomingdale NJ today. This office opened just 2 weeks ago and uses the same procedures that Project Walk does. Eric, the trainer, has been to California working with Project Walk and is certified. He worked with Tyler for about an hour and a half, doing various exercises. He made Tyler kneel and balance himself against a box to work on his core muscles. The theory is to make his core muscles work to regain balance and help him move his body around. At one point Tyler is told to push against the trainer’s resistance. Eric said at a certain point in the extension of Tyler’s Left leg he can feel Tyler pushing against him. Tyler also said that he could feel the muscles in his left thigh working!!!. This is a big step and it means that Tyler is continuing to recover. Eric also told us that Thoracic back injury patients typically regain feeling and motion form the waist down. Cervical injury patients typically recover form toes up. That explains why Tyler has reported feeling throbbing and feeling in thighs but not his toes. In all it was a very promising visit and Tyler is already scheduled to go back on Tuesday 1/30 for another workout.

That’s all for now. Thank you all for your help!

Love

Tuesday Jan 30 Update

Tyler had his second session with Push to walk today and worked out for another 2 hours. He worked on strengthing his core muscles, rode a stationary bike, stood up with help from the trainers, and did alot of situps. He said the session was really long and he expects to feel some sore muscles in his back and shoulders. When he stood up he did not feel any lightheadedness, which is a good sign that his blood pressure is strong. His next training session is friday afternoon, assuming there is not a snowstorm!
We would also like to send a Big thank you to Leptondale Christian Academy for the fundraiser they ran last saturday. They had a "super saturday" of basketball games and we hear it was a very nice day. Coach Craig Andrews made a very nice speech about Tyler. Thank you Coach.

Thank you all again for your help.

Tyler, Keegan, Justin, Lori and Jay
